My weekly, Friday update....
It's the end of another week. And with this Friday, we are also coming to an end with the spooky season.
Yup, that's right! This is the last Friday of October, meaning that the first month of Q4 is done and we're coming into the last 2 months of the quarter before begin fresh with a new year.
This week was busy. (But, then again, when am I not busy???) So, I focused a whole lot more on closing out my teaching career and wrapping up things there so I can shift gears and dedicate myself to being a mom and my writing.
With that said, I had my final feedback session with my second beta, and it went really well. She highlighted some places where a little extra material would be helpful and gave me questions she had has a reader that could benefit from some answers. She gave tons of positive feedback too, which totally made me feel good!
With that, let's look at how I did these past week:
Goal: Final feedback session with with Beta 1.
Result: Done!
Goal: Apply Beta 2 Feedback
Result: Nailed it! I managed to finish up applying everything this beta recommended that I agreed with.
Stretch Goal: Apply Beta 1 Feedback
Result: Not really.... I did manage to apply all of her feedback from the 1st half of the book. But, since we only just met last night for our last feedback session, I haven't had the chance yet to apply the rest of her suggestions.
The Plan: This weekend is going to be pretty busy getting ready for Halloween. Then, next weekend, we're going to be going out of town for my birthday. That means this week might be a little more chaotic than usual. As such, we're keeping things simple and hopefully getting ready to gear up for NaNoWriMo, and my sole focus is too finish apply the rest of Beta 1's feedback. I'm going to have a few other writing goals since we're into November next week, but those are separate from my editing plans.
With that said, today will end my Adventures in Editing series. It's been a long journey (approx. 3 months) of editing this book. Seven drafts later, we're coming into the final version that will be sent off to a professional editor for review. I won't drag you all through that though.
But, if you find you enjoy reading my process and seeing the "behind the scenes" of the creation of Dissent, then stick around for my NaNoWriMo Diaries series!
That's all for today! Have a great week and don't forget to keep turning the page!
